Blood Alcohol Content (BAC)

Research has clearly shown that the risk of a car accident increases greatly as BAC levels increase. Once drivers have reached the illegal BAC limit, their risk of being involved in a fatal car accident increases approximately 48 times when compared to someone who was not drinking, although people are affected differently at different BAC levels. For example, a driver’s ability to divide attention between two or more sources of visual information can be impaired by Blood Alcohol Content (BAC’s) of 0.02 percent or lower. However, impairments usually occur once an individual’s BAC level reaches .05 percent or higher. The impairments consistent with this blood alcohol content level include slowed eye movements, visual perception, reaction time, certain types of steering tasks and information processing.

Risk of Car Accidents Increase with Higher BAC

Blood alcohol content is the concentration of alcohol in one’s bloodstream and is expressed as a percentage. The legal Blood Alcohol Count, (BAC) in most States is 0.08 percent. Having a BAC above the legal limit can result in vehicle impoundment, suspension of vehicle registration, vehicle confiscation, vehicle impoundment, vehicle forfeiture, vehicle immobilization, special license plates and ignition interlock.

Is Blood Alcohol Calculator 100% Accurate?

Because of different factors that come into play regarding consumption of alcohol and burn off reduction, there is no blood alcohol calculator that is 100% accurate. Factors take into account things such as the gender of the drinker, different metabolic rates, health issues, medications that may have been taken, drinking frequency, food in the stomach and other factors. Only a rough estimate of the BAC level can be determined and those determinations are based on various known input.
