Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Clint Stoerner has come to an agreement with the courts and admitted that He was driving while intoxicated in Fayetteville, Arkansas. As part of the agreement, Stoerner will have driving privileges restricted for a period of four months because of the drunken driving charge. Stoerner’s DWI lawyer said that he will be pleading not guilty to the DWI charge.
“It’s just a corollary issue dealing with his driver’s license. Normally, with people in his position, the state will take the driver’s license for 180 days and not let them drive at all … even before they’re convicted,” DWI attorney John Mikesch said. “We’ve managed to negotiate a deal with the state of Arkansas where he can continue to drive for work-related purposes for a four-month period.”
Arkansas judge Kim Smith said that the restricted driving permit was given so that Stoerner can still get to his job. In the agreement, Stoerner admitted that he was driving while intoxicated, but the fact that he refused to take a breath test will be expunged. Fayetteville police said that he was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated because he failed a field sobriety test.
“If he gets acquitted at trial, his record will be completely clear,” DWI attorney Mikesch said. “It won’t reflect anything.”
